If you have a particular layout you wish us to use, we will be happy to do so. However, we generally use the following layout, which makes the transcript very easy to follow:
Sometimes, we are asked to anonymise a transcript, to ensure that people cannot be identified. We can do this in two ways, either changing the names of the participants and any other possible identifying information, or we can simply use [NAME], [TOWN], [SON], [DAUGHTER], [AUNT] etc.
By default our transcripts capture every word spoken and, where required, how a word or phrase was spoken as this can change the context. For example, someone saying, "I didn't see Amanda take the document" takes on a different meaning if the person says "I didn't see Amanda take the document" (they saw Amanda take something, but it wasn't the document).
A full transcript not only captures everything said, and how it was said, but it also captures every other noise made by participants. So, all hesitation sounds (um, er, erm), pauses and repetitions ("I went to the shop first... did I go to the shop first? Yes, I went to the shop first...") will be in the final transcript.
If required we can insert timestamps into the transcript, so you know where you are in relation to the recording. Timestamps can be at set periods of time (e.g. every five minutes) or at certain points in the transcript (e.g. top of every page). These can be to your preference.
